Following on from our efforts to be green, I am currently involved in two fights.
1 – To replace my overflowing home made wooden composter I ordered two large compost bins on 14th March that are yet to turn up.
2 – I also changed our electricity/gas tariff with Scottish Power to their ‘Green Energy H20′ power option. This means they will buy the same amount of energy I use from Hydro sources. However, switching to this has revoked my ‘online account’ and they now want to send me paper bills again. Apparently I am the first person to spot their stupidity and they are looking into it and will keep me updated.
On a more positive note, all lights in the house with the exception of 2 that we rarely use are now energy saving bulbs using 1/5th of the power of the others

Today sees the start of my ‘being green(er)’mission. To make it clear, I am not a cardigan wearing hippy who pees on his compost heap and only eats what I can grow on my own land. Over the last couple of years we have made an effort to be greener and now might be the time to step it up and write about it so others might do that same. [Read more →]

It’s one thing getting a call to a 9 year old server refusing to start, but quite another when you discover it has 9 years of dust on it. From the pictures below is there any wonder it didn’t work.
